Heydon's sound is an amalgam of blues, country, folk, and bluegrass. It's the kind of stringed rhythms made popular in recent Western movies. So the wait has been long, long for Cory's debut CD, which is on sale now in stores everywhere around western Montana. The recording was 2 years in the making, but well worth the wait. Cory's earthy and mellow style permeates the CD. For his fans this is the essential Cory Heydon, a musician whose songs drip of lament and sentimentality. Cory's sense of music as a whole package, of the interplay between music and lyrics, style and substance, is superb. But it's the small things that make this music work. Cory is a tasteful and sublime singer. His perfect placement of the bends of pitch and change in timbre are masterful. He's as adept at belting out the blues as he is a modified country twang.
